The School of Humanities was founded in 2018 through the merger of the former Chinese Language Department and History Department, boasting a profound historical heritage and solid educational foundation. Following the guiding philosophy of rooting in local regions, inheriting traditions, developing applied strengths, and adapting to new technologies, the School optimizes its specialty layout, carries out teaching reforms, and builds a distinctive cluster of liberal arts programs for local undergraduate universities featuring precise service orientation, prominent disciplinary advantages, strong local characteristics and adaptability to the new technological era.

The School consists of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the Department of History, offering four undergraduate majors: Chinese Language and Literature, International Chinese Education, History, and Cultural Relics and Museology. Notably, Cultural Relics and Museology is the only full-time undergraduate program of its kind in Fujian Province.

The School currently has 1,068 full-time undergraduate students and 58 faculty and staff members, including 47 full-time teachers. Among full-time faculty, there are 10 professors and 20 associate professors, with senior professional titles accounting for 64%. A total of 39 teachers hold doctoral degrees, accounting for 83%, and 14 serve as part-time master supervisors. Faculty members have been awarded 10 provincial-level talent titles and 16 municipal-level talent titles.

The School owns 1 National First-class Specialty, 1 Provincial Key Discipline, 1 Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences Innovation Platform (Mindu History and Culture Research Center), 1 Provincial First-class Specialty, 1 Provincial Excellent Course, 3 Provincial Offline First-class Courses, 1 Provincial Teaching Application Team, and 3 Provincial Demonstration Bases for Excellent Traditional Culture Education in Fujian Universities. It also runs the Mindu History and Culture Exhibition Hall with museum functions.

The School has established one provincial research platform, three provincial demonstration bases for excellent traditional culture education in universities, one municipal research platform and two university-level research platforms. The Mindu History and Culture Research Center has been honored as an Excellent Innovation Platform of Fujian University Humanities and Social Sciences Bases and awarded the Provincial May 1st Vanguard Title.

Since 2021, the School has undertaken 33 research projects at provincial level and above, including 4 National Social Science Fund projects and 7 provincial and ministerial projects. Faculty members have published 34 papers in core journals (including 16 in authoritative journals), authored 12 academic monographs and obtained 6 patents. It has undertaken 21 horizontal research projects with over 5 million yuan in funds received. Entrusted by the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government, the School presided over and partially compiled the major historical and cultural construction project General History of Fuzhou (10 volumes, 4.5 million words). The manuscript has been completed and a publishing contract has been signed with The Commercial Press.

The School has achieved fruitful results in Party building and ideological and political education. Its Party Committee was recognized as an Advanced Primary Party Organization in Fujian Universities. The Second Faculty Party Branch passed the acceptance inspection of the cultivation project for the Dual-Leading Teacher Party Branch Secretary Studio of Fujian Universities, and was rated as a Model Party Branch in the national Double Innovation Initiative for University Party Building in the New Era.

The School has won one Top Ten Excellent Secretary’s Party Class and one Excellent Party Member Story in Fujian Universities. One Party Branch passed the acceptance inspection of the provincial model Party Branch project. One faculty member represented the university and won the second prize in Fujian University Primary Party Affairs Cadres Professional Competence Competition. One teacher was awarded the title of Excellent Communist Party Member of Fujian Province. The School has been honored with one National May Fourth Red Flag League Branch. In the past five years, its college students’ traditional culture promotion practice projects and volunteer service activities have won 17 national awards and 5 provincial awards. The employment rate of 2024 graduates exceeded 97%.
