The School of Foreign Languages is one of the first schools to enroll undergraduate students in Minjiang University. It consists of three second-level teaching units: the Department of English, the Department of Japanese, and the College Foreign Languages Teaching Department. The School offers three undergraduate majors: English, English (Teacher Education), and Japanese. It provides language courses in English, Japanese and French, and undertakes public foreign language teaching for the whole university.

The School currently has 554 foreign language majors and 110 faculty and staff members, including 99 full-time teachers (4 foreign teachers). Among them are 26 professors and associate professors, and 13 doctors. The faculty includes 1 expert in Fujian Provincial Language Expert Database, 2 Mindu Scholar Young Backbone Talents, and 53 double-qualified teachers. Over 70% of the teachers have overseas study or visiting scholar experience.

In recent years, faculty members have won numerous national and provincial awards. Students have received more than 200 national and provincial discipline competition awards in the past three years. The employment rate of 2024 graduates reached 97.33%.

On the basis of consolidating students’ language proficiency, the School introduces a digitally intelligent interdisciplinary knowledge system, and constructs a knowledge and ability structure featuring language competence + humanistic literacy + digital intelligent technology + translation & international communication / business & digital marketing / education & cultural tourism research. It aims to cultivate high-quality applied compound innovative talents with broad international vision, outstanding cross-cultural communication skills and solid professional practical abilities.

The School has established a six-in-one applied talent training model, namely dual subjects, dual-chain embedding, double-teacher guidance, dual-campus experience, dual-certificate integration, and innovation & entrepreneurship coordination. It builds diversified government-local-university-enterprise integrated linkage platforms and industry-education collaborative education mechanisms represented by Fuzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, Fujian Sea Lion Group Co., Ltd., Yiguoyimin Translation Service Co., Ltd., and Minjiang University Affiliated Middle School, so as to enhance students’ practical application ability and employment competitiveness.

On the basis of existing university-enterprise cooperative innovation classes, the School is actively promoting the construction of customized talent training classes for Business Foreign Languages (Cross-border E-commerce). Targeting oriented talent supply for high-quality enterprises including Fujian Sea Lion Group Co., Ltd. and Fujian Chuancheng Internet Technology Co., Ltd., universities and enterprises jointly formulate training programs, design theoretical and practical courses, and set talent evaluation criteria. The program cultivates high-quality applied international business foreign language talents with global strategic vision and digital operation capabilities that accurately meet enterprise demands.

In terms of international exchanges and cooperation, the School has long provided students with exchange programs at overseas universities including the University of Essex (UK), National University of Singapore, Hiroshima University (Japan), Kobe Shoin Women’s University (Japan), Keimyung University (South Korea), as well as credit exchange programs at domestic universities such as Hangzhou Normal University and Fujian Normal University.
