The School of Law traces its origins to the Politics and Education Department of Fuzhou Normal College founded in 1958. In 1985, the former Minjiang Vocational University launched the Law major, and the Social Work major in 2000. In September 2002, the Department of Political Science and Sociology of Minjiang University was established; it was renamed the Department of Law in May 2005, and further upgraded to the School of Law in April 2017.
The School currently has 45 faculty and staff members, including 34 full-time teachers. Among full-time faculty, there are 6 professors and 8 associate professors, and 20 hold doctoral degrees. Teachers with senior professional titles and doctoral degrees account for 76.47% of the total. There are 26 double-qualified teachers, accounting for 76.47%.The faculty includes 6 Fujian Provincial High-level Talents (Class C), 1 provincial disciplinary leader, 2 candidates for the Provincial Ten-Thousand Talents Project, 2 talents selected into Fujian Provincial New Century Talent Support Program, and 6 outstanding talents including university-level Mindu Scholar Distinguished Professors. The School implements the Six-One Faculty Capacity Improvement Project and the Case Database Construction Plan to strengthen the development of an applied teaching staff. At present, 11 teachers are qualified master supervisors, and 60 person-times of teachers serve as members of professional committees at provincial level and above and other academic positions.
Currently, the School has two undergraduate majors: Law and Social Work, with 706 full-time students. Adhering to the goal of applied talent training, the School continuously deepens teaching reform and innovation, and strengthens industry-education integration and digital intelligence empowerment. The Law major features Civil and Commercial Law and International Business Law, offering a Digital Law Innovation Class, a Second Major in Law, and a Minor in Law. The Social Work major specializes in grassroots governance and services, as well as judicial social work. It has 54 off-campus practical teaching bases, among which one is rated as a Provincial Social Work Talent Base. Equipped with advanced teaching facilities, the School houses a Moot Court, an International Business Law Experimental Teaching Center, a Legal Clinic, and a TPR Training Center for Social Work, with a total construction area of approximately 1,400 square meters. In the past four years, 27 outstanding students have been sent to Xiamen University, East China University of Political Science and Law, Wenzhou University and other renowned universities for exchange studies. The School has won the First Prize of the National Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award in Social Work (2024) from the China Social Work Development Foundation, and approved 2 Ministry of Education Industry-University Collaborative Education Projects, 2 Provincial Educational Reform Projects, 3 Provincial First-class Course Construction Projects, and 1 Provincial Curriculum Ideological and Political Project. Community Work has been approved as a Provincial High-quality Demonstration Project for Curriculum Ideological and Political Education and displayed as a case on Xinhuanet. One teacher won the First Prize in the Provincial Young Teachers Teaching Competition, and one teacher was selected into the Fujian Provincial University Curriculum Ideological and Political Expert Database.
The School strengthens its research capacity, expands research platforms, and enhances social services. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, faculty members published 129 papers, including 39 in core journals; 22 research consulting reports were adopted by provincial and municipal government departments; 8 monographs were published with Category A publishers; and the research funds received totaled 5.28938 million yuan. The School has established research and service platforms such as the Legal Education Research Association of Fujian Law Society, Fuzhou Social Work Talent Training Base, Fuzhou Social Work and Social Governance Innovation Research Center, and Minjiang University Sub-station of Fuzhou Legal Aid Center. In 2021, it took the lead in co-founding the Fujian Legal Education Forum with 8 universities, which has been successfully held for three sessions, and published 2 proceedings. It co-organized the 3rd Southeast Legal Forum, the Seminar on Learning and Implementing Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law and the 2nd Theoretical Symposium on the Construction of Fujian Rule of Law Public Security. In 2023 and 2024, it jointly held enterprise compliance conferences with the Fujian Federation of Enterprises and Entrepreneurs, which received wide acclaim from the legal community inside and outside the province. It actively carries out international exchanges and social services, undertaking projects such as the supervision and service of women's social organization projects of the Fujian Provincial Women's Federation, the capacity improvement training for volunteers and social work talents of the Social Work Department of Fuzhou Municipal Party Committee, and the continuing education of certified social work talents in Fuzhou.
The School promotes learning through competitions to enhance students' professional application abilities. It undertakes and organizes professional competitions, including the Bank of China Cup Fujian University Moot Court Debate, the Zeliang Cup Fujian University Popular Legal Law Situation Comedy Competition, and the Fujian University Social Work Case Competition. One student’s proposal won the Best Mock CPPCC Proposal (Top Ten) in Fujian Province and the 2023 National Youth Excellent Mock CPPCC Proposal, as well as the Special Grand Prize in the 1st Luyou Cup National Digital Social Work Innovation Competition. In recent years, students have won 56 national awards and 52 provincial awards.
The School has achieved remarkable results in Party building and ideological and political education. Its Party Committee was awarded the title of Advanced Primary Party Organization in Fujian Province. Two research teams have won the title of May 1st Pioneer Post in Fuzhou City. The Faculty Party Branch of the former Department of Law was selected as one of the first batch of Model Party Branches for Party Building Work in Fujian Province. The School’s Youth League Committee was rated as a May 4th Red Flag League Committee in Fuzhou City. Continuing to deepen the One Integration and Two Excellence initiative, the Faculty Party Branch of the former Department of Law was selected into the list of Special Action Teams for the 'Strong Country Tour' of Dual-Leading Teacher Party Branch Secretaries in Fujian Universities.
Deepening the construction of the Five Education in Minjiang University, the School organizes students to participate in the Youth Study and continuously promotes the construction of the Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law Reading Club. It won the Group Second Prize and Individual First Prize in the Provincial University Take the Lead by One 'Ma' Knowledge Competition, achieving a historic breakthrough in the school’s competition performance. The Warm Breeze Teaching Assistance project has been carried out for 18 years, winning the Fujian Provincial May 4th Medal. The Warm Breeze Action social practice team has received 12 national awards, including the Excellent Social Practice Team Award. The Colorful Summer Vacation Warm Breeze Service Team was selected into the 2024 Colorful Summer Vacation Volunteer Service Group of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and rated as an Excellent Team. Relevant activities have been reported more than 100 times by national and provincial new media such as People.com.cn and Guangming.com.cn, achieving good social response.
