The School originated from the Department of Physics of Fuzhou Normal College founded in 1958. When Minjiang University was established in February 2002, it was renamed the Department of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering (abbreviated as Electronic Department). In June 2018, it was renamed the School of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering (abbreviated as SPEIE). In March 2026, as the university was renamed Minjiang University, the School was officially renamed School of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering, Minjiang University.
The School consists of basic administrative units including the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation, Department of Electronic Science and Technology, Department of Intelligent Manufacturing, and Experimental Teaching Center. Oriented to application scenarios including autonomous navigation, low-altitude economy, new energy and healthcare, the School focuses on six development directions: intelligent perception & autonomous navigation, optoelectronic systems & information processing, new energy storage & control, electromechanical systems & intelligent control, medical information processing, and complex network dynamics & applications. It actively carries out talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, as well as international exchanges and cooperation.
The School offers undergraduate programs including Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Mechatronic Engineering, and Robotics Engineering, together with postgraduate programs in Electronic Information. Among them, Electronic Information Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Automation are Provincial First-class Undergraduate Specialty Construction Sites. In addition, the School has built provincial and municipal research platforms, including Fujian Provincial Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Navigation Safety Control of Ships, Fujian University Engineering Research Center for Electronic Information and Control, and Fuzhou Municipal Industry Technology Innovation Center for Intelligent Transformation and Digital Upgrading of Machinery Manufacturing Equipment.
The School currently has 1,518 enrolled students, including 1,479 undergraduates and 39 postgraduates. It has 110 faculty and staff members, among whom are 82 full-time teachers. There are 43 teachers with senior professional titles (accounting for 52.4%), 57 teachers with doctoral degrees (accounting for 69.5%), 38 double-qualified and double-competent teachers, and 23 provincial-level talents.
The School carries out university-enterprise cooperation to jointly cultivate applied talents.
