On the morning of June 17, Minjiang University’s 2026 Commencement and Degree Conferral Ceremony took place at the Comprehensive Gymnasium. University leaders including Wu Keshou, Shu Jiwu, Ren Tao, Tong Guirong, Wu Xiaoyun and Zhong Shuncong, as well as members of the University Degree Evaluation Committee attended the event. The ceremony was presided over by Ren Tao, Deputy Party Secretary of the University.
The solemn national anthem kicked off the commencement. Vice President Zhong Shuncong successively read out the official decisions on approving graduation for the Class of 2026, conferring master’s and bachelor’s degrees, and commending outstanding graduates. Afterwards, university leaders and committee members jointly presented awards to outstanding graduate representatives and handed graduation certificates to student representatives.
Zhou Naisen, an undergraduate representative majoring in Electronic Information Engineering from the School of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering, looked back on his four years at the university, during which he delved into academic studies, conducted scientific experiments and participated in various competitions and practical projects. Guo Lili, a postgraduate representative majoring in Business Administration from Newhuadu Business School, shared her three-year postgraduate journey, where she exchanged ideas through case discussions, honed professional capabilities in competitions and achieved steady growth through diverse practical experiences.
Huang Shulin, faculty representative from the School of Marxism, encouraged all graduates to stay true to their original aspirations, preserve sincere integrity, pursue lifelong self-improvement to master core competencies, cherish the motherland and the people, and bravely shoulder the missions of the times. Li Haoran, alumni representative, Class of 2007 graduate from the School of Computer Science and Big Data and Vice President of Yuanli Lingji Technology, delivered a message to graduates, urging them to step out of their comfort zones, embrace changes proactively, march toward cutting-edge fields, integrate personal aspirations with industrial development, and create value and fulfill ambitions with their professional expertise.
President Shu Jiwu delivered an inspiring ideological and political lecture to all graduates and extended his warmest congratulations to over 4,200 students who successfully completed their studies this year. He noted that the university officially obtained approval to rename itself “Minjiang University” this past February — a long-cherished wish shared by every member of the MJU community, a landmark milestone in the institution’s history, and a brand-new starting point on its journey toward building a high-level, distinctive and first-class application-oriented university.
President Shu put forward four expectations for graduates: First, be people with boundless love in heart-always cherish the country and people, maintain profound patriotism and a strong sense of social responsibility. Second, be people with bright stars in sight-see clearly the direction amid the tides of the times and forge ahead with firm resolve. Third, be people with solid expertise in hand-carry forward MJU’s core spirit of “striving for excellence” and “valuing quality”, and translate academic knowledge into capable skills for work and entrepreneurship. Fourth, be people with mountains and rivers underfoot-take root at grassroots levels, stay connected with the people and engage in hands-on practice, temper willpower through hard work, and rise to take responsibility amid tough and urgent tasks.
Led by Luo Tianyi, outstanding graduate representative from the School of Humanities, all graduates raised their right fists and took a solemn oath. Student representatives from Tsai Chi-Kun Academy of Music staged a musical performance dedicated to the Class of 2026. Amid warm applause, the university anthem Ode to Minjiang Students played, and faculty and students sang in unison.
Subsequently, university leaders and Degree Evaluation Committee members conferred degree certificates on every graduate and performed the traditional tassel-turning ceremony for masters and bachelors.
The ceremony was also attended by Party and administrative heads of all functional departments, teaching, auxiliary and research units, graduating class counselors, head teachers, faculty representatives, alumni representatives, graduate representatives of the Class of 2026, as well as parents of graduates.
