As the information resource and service center of the university, Minjiang University Library was established in September 2002, with a total construction area of 53,540.39 square meters, including 41,315.55 square meters for the new library, 11,816.0 square meters for the old library, and 408.84 square meters for the Shoushan Road Campus. Adhering to the people-oriented service philosophy, the library adopts an open resource layout and modern management methods, and sets up independent learning spaces. It provides teachers and students with diversified information resource services such as book and periodical lending, inter-library loan, document delivery, information literacy education, and subject information services. It continuously strengthens the connotation construction of the new library, improves the level of intelligence, and gradually builds a smart library integrating learning, knowledge and cultural centers.
The library currently has 4 departments: Circulation and Reading Department, Cultural Information Department, Resource and Technology Department, and General Office, with a professional team with a reasonable knowledge structure and strong professional competence.
The library's document resources provide professional and systematic document support for the teaching, scientific research and academic innovation of teachers and students in our university. Following the university's school-running philosophy of not seeking the largest, but seeking the best and adapting to social needs, the library adheres to the principles of systematicness, applicability and economy, proactively adapts to the discipline development situation of the university, and dynamically adjusts the document resource acquisition plan.
A full-process resource guarantee mechanism of demand-oriented + on-demand purchase + dynamic evaluation has been established. The Qingzhi Book Recommendation paper book recommendation platform and the Changxiang Star e-book recommendation platform have been launched. The resource purchase decision-making is optimized through departmental research, reader suggestion collection, resource usage analysis and other work. Efforts are made to purchase document resources related to the university's key majors, new majors and master's degree application disciplines, and a scientific document guarantee system is built to provide strong resource guarantee and intellectual support for the university's teaching, scientific research and talent cultivation. As of March 2026, the total collection of paper books is more than 2.13 million volumes, and the total number of paper periodicals is about 3,600 kinds.
The construction of digital resources has been strengthened. To actively expand information service capabilities, a total of 100 databases have been purchased from 2020 to 2026, including 69 Chinese databases and 31 foreign language databases, mainly including Web of Science, Science Direct, EBSCO, CNKI, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and Duxiu Academic Search System. There are more than 3.07 million e-books and 770,000 e-periodicals, providing 24-hour online services every day.
Efforts have been made to collect local documents on Mindu culture and strengthen its digital construction, forming a special collection of Mindu culture. The Mindu Culture Document Resource Special Collection Library has been built, collecting nearly 10,000 relevant documents, ancient books, manuscripts and other precious materials, providing rich first-hand materials for Mindu culture research. Since 2010, the Mindu Celebrities Database, Mindu Culture Genealogy Database, Mindu Culture Local Chronicles Database and other databases have been built one after another to protect and disseminate Mindu culture through digital means. The self-produced documentary series Embracing All Rivers: Talking About Mindu and the animation production Painting the Notes of Mindu have been created to show the rich connotation of Mindu culture from multiple angles.
Centering on the construction of key disciplines, degree programs and professional clusters, the library uses various data mining tools to carry out subject services and information analysis, providing support for the university's teaching and scientific research construction. It collects valuable subject information such as journal recommendations and research frontiers, shares them on the library website or pushes them to relevant departments to assist teachers and students in scientific research. It carries out document retrieval and citation services and sci-tech novelty search commission services, and deepens the construction of the scientific research guarantee system. A subject librarian system has been established to sort out professional databases, journal recommendations, must-read books for each college, curriculum document centers, etc., and build a smart library subject branch to provide active and in-depth information services for teaching and scientific research.
A relatively complete document resource guarantee system has been built. The library is currently a member library of the China Academic Library & Information System (CALIS), the China Academic Social Sciences and Humanities Library (CASHL), and the China Academic Digital Library Alliance (CADAL), a director unit of the Fujian Library Society, and one of the founding member libraries of the Fujian University Digital Library (FULink). It has introduced a multi-dimensional document guarantee service platform, expanded document access channels, improved the utilization rate of library resources, and escorted teachers in teaching and scientific research work.
The informatization construction of the library has been comprehensively promoted. To meet the development needs of the digital age, the library has built a comprehensive intelligent information service system covering resource management, space services and user interaction in recent years. In 2022, the first phase of the RFID project was launched, and self-service lending and returning services were tried out, which has now fully covered the new library of the university. It is equipped with self-service book lending and returning equipment, librarian workstation systems and intelligent bookshelves to realize intelligent management of book circulation. A smart library platform has been built to realize one-stop retrieval of paper and electronic resources, display resources of college branches, and construct a big data display platform.
Wireless network coverage is realized in the whole library, which significantly improves the library's resource access capacity. The WeChat official account and mobile library system have been opened, integrating functions such as e-book reading, database resource access and resource recommendation, and equipped with waterfall flow, digital virtual librarians, etc., which greatly expands the information service channels. The face recognition access control system at the entrance and exit is linked with the space and seat reservation system to realize access control linked check-in. The reading desks are equipped with e-ink screens to display the information of the reserved person and automatically connect and cut off the power supply. Full-color LED display screens, information release all-in-one machines and variable picture screens are equipped to facilitate the library's external publicity and display of existing digital resources. Information literacy classrooms, discussion rooms, virtual studios, recording studios, live broadcast rooms, audio-visual appreciation rooms, etc., have been built to fully meet the needs of teachers and students for online teaching, academic counseling and professional training.
Campus cultural activity brands have been created. Through resource optimization, activity innovation, cultural inheritance and the use of new media, relying on the Five-Education Minjiang University and the Seven-Hundred College Students Growth Plan, and taking the One Festival and Two Seasons (Reading Culture Festival, Freshman Welcome Season, Graduation Season) as the starting points, various activities such as resource promotion, cultural exhibitions, living libraries, reading check-ins and book review competitions have been carried out. The created brand activities such as Reading Culture Festival and Reading Star have been widely praised and won the title of Fujian Provincial Excellent National Reading Project.
Freshman library orientation and information literacy training are carried out. While promoting purchased or planned resources, students' comprehensive information literacy such as retrieval skills, data literacy, media literacy, intellectual property rights and the use of scientific research tools are cultivated. Various competitions at all levels such as film reviews, book reviews, information literacy, patent retrieval, cultural and creative design, and short video creation are organized to promote learning and innovation through competitions, helping to improve students' professional quality and comprehensive ability.
New media is actively used to promote reading. In 2021, the WeChat Video Account was opened, and a professional new media team was set up. More than 120 high-quality short video works have been carefully produced around Mindu culture, book recommendations, reader interaction and other contents, with a total browsing volume exceeding 500,000 times, which has effectively expanded the radiation scope of reading promotion, provided a practical platform for students to make new media, and helped the university's applied talent cultivation.
As the host unit of the Reading Promotion Service Working Group of Fujian University Digital Library (FULink), it organizes inter-university reading culture theme tours, coordinates and carries out the Minyun Lecture Hall library-society interactive reading promotion lectures, holds the selection of Scholarly Ambassadors in universities across the province, and organizes Scholarly Ambassadors to carry out volunteer service activities in Fujian Provincial National Reading Demonstration Bases and pilot sites. It provides practical platforms for students, stimulates their enthusiasm for reading, and fills the campus with the fragrance of books.
